The Game

Some time ago, I decided to create my own game. The main assumption was to develop it more or less in public, sharing not only current updates but also my thoughts and motivations behind the most important decisions. That's why you can find a lot of 'maybies' and plans that never get executed here. But that's fine; it's part of the process. This game marks my first significant solo project, so I'm not making too many assumptions about its future shape. I certainly want to release it in one form or another, but my goal isn't to earn millions or achieve 100k downloads. I may join forces with other devs at some point or find a publisher. I might continue it solo till the end as well. Who knows? My only hope is to make it fun.

The Basement

I've worked in several great studios over almost 10 years of my professional experience as a game programmer. I've seen a lot of weird stuff. When bidding adieu to any given studio, I always tried to synthesize the main issues I observed and provide feedback to the people responsible for the company. I always wish them well and believe that 99.9% of the game development community comprises truly awesome, dedicated people who do whatever they can to deliver as much value to players as possible. However, there are some issues that make working on games harder than necessary—patterns repeated in many places that slow developers down, demotivate them and, in the end, leave their mark on released titles. As I observed these issues, I began to wonder if there are any ways to prevent them, if there are any people who actually know The Way. I enrolled in a project management course at the university and took several agile and SCRUM courses to better understand how things should be done. Have I found the answer? Not really. But I have some conclusions and definitive thoughts on what NOT to do when organizing a development team, of course, as seen from the perspective of a basement-dwelling programmer.

About Me

I'm a simple game programmer, working solo on an indie game as a side project. I have both computer science and project management degrees, as I realized at some point, that there is a lot of value to be made in better development process organization. I'm most passionate about games, historical reenactment (viking period), sailing and travels. You need some distractions or The Basement can drag you too deep. Here are some companies and projects I've worked for:

QLOC
Donkey Crew
CD Project Red
Directive Games

God Eater 2 (porting)
God Eater Ressurection (porting)
WWE 2k17 (porting)
Injustice 2 (porting)
Last Oasis
Cyberpunk 2077
The Machines Arena
